Water-your-seeds-ailis-garcia

I woke up this morning to pouring rain, lightning and thunder.  Two hours later, blue skies starting peeking through the big white cumulus and dark rain clouds for a beautiful view of nature in my backyard.  I started thinking about how green and vibrant all the trees and hills here in Southern California will look tomorrow when the rain completely clears up.  My bestie, Amanda, texted me last night, “Rain is a good thing.”  Just like the flowers, plants and trees need to be watered, so do our own personal skills.  We all need to take the time to water the different areas of our lives–strong and weak.  We need to invest in ourselves because we won’t grow without it.  We have the seeds planted within us, but do we take the time to nurture ourselves so that we can blossom into our full potential?

These quotes immediately came to mind…

“The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft.  There’s no easy way around it. No matter how talented you are, your talent is going to fail you if you’re not skilled. If you don’t study, if you don’t work really hard and dedicate yourself to being better every single day, you’ll never be able to communicate with people – with your artistry – the way that you want….The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is: I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. You might have more talent than me; you might be smarter than me. But if we get on a treadmill together, there’s two things: you’re getting off first, or I’m gonna die.” – Will Smith

“A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.” – Larry Bird

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” – Kevin Durant

“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.” – John Wooden

Nothing in life comes easy.  We must work hard for it.  Recognize your talents and then dedicate the time to water them– to do something for yourself that will take you to that next level.  It won’t happen overnight, but if you invest in yourself and work at it every day, you will succeed.
