Yesterday I heard an interesting quote come up in conversation…. “Life Happens For You NOT To You.” Wow, what a concept right?! And, it totally makes sense. So often we go through life wondering why certain events are happening “to” us as if we are a victim. But, what if we shifted the focus from life happening “to” us to “for” us. With this simple mental switch, we’re able to see with a new perspective. Instead of wondering why things may be going wrong or unfolding the way they are, we can simply view these events as necessary stepping stones or learning opportunities in our journey. I know it’s tough to see the positive when everything seems to be going wrong–maybe you didn’t get that job or promotion or perhaps a call didn’t go as you had hoped, but if you think of these so-called “disappointments” still as stepping stones in your journey–they serve and move you forward instead of keeping you in the past and robbing you of your energy and momentum. Maintaining this mindset is definitely tough, we’re wired to get upset when negative things happen, but if you focus on how life can help you versus hold you back, you’ll start to see your life positively transform!

So, next time you’re wondering “why me?”, ask yourself to identify all the ways this “bad” event is helping you and how you can learn from it for the future!
