“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” – Jack Canfield

Now that the new year is in full swing, it’s important to think about and identify what we’re focusing our thoughts and actions on.  Some of us may still be going strong with new positive habits we set out to form at the beginning of the year, while others of us may have already fallen off and lost momentum.  Wherever you are in your journey, take a moment to reflect on where you put your energy.  What thoughts consume your mind?  What are you always working on or doing?

It’s so easy to be distracted by “life” and technology, but to really accomplish your goals, you must be focused on working on them.  Focused people don’t get caught up in the day to day minutia of things that can hold them back.  They also don’t dwell on things that happened in the past.  Focused people live with intention and purpose.  It doesn’t mean you don’t live life and are so focused you forget about friends and family or run over anyone that gets in your way, but it’s about being focused when you need to be and living your life in a way that supports that focus.

Tom Brady is a good example of someone who lives life focused on his goal despite what time of year it is (offseason and during season).  You may have read the recent interview with his personal chef.  Tom Brady lives a lifestyle that supports his goal of performing at his optimum best–from the food that he eats to the time he goes to bed.  Everything he does supports his main purpose and intentions.  Now, that may be a little extreme for someone like you and me that aren’t playing to compete in the Super Bowl, but it’s not too far off.  Make sure your lifestyle and the choices you make support that vision you have for yourself!
